Can you exchange TikTok coins for money? Do they expire?
Updated: 21/10/2026
No: TikTok coins cannot be exchanged for money or sold. TikTok's Virtual Items Policy (updated 22/01/2026) says they cannot be exchanged for cash or used as currency, and that they can only be bought from or received from TikTok. On expiry, the policy sets no expiry date, and TikTok's official disclosure for Japan states it outright: no expiry date is set. The important exception: if your account is closed or TikTok terminates it, any coins you have not used are lost with no refund.
Quick summary
- Cash? No: coins cannot be exchanged for cash or sold to other users.
- Expiry? The policy sets none; coins are lost if the account is closed or terminated.
- Refund? It depends on where you bought and where you live (table below).
- Gifts that have been sent are never refunded.
Can you exchange TikTok coins for money?
No. Under the policy, virtual items, coins included, cannot be exchanged for cash or used as currency. They only work for sending gifts and other features inside TikTok. Nor can they be sold or transferred to other users: the policy only lets you get them from TikTok. If you want someone else to have coins, see how to buy TikTok coins for someone else, which is a top-up to their account, not a transfer from yours.
Do TikTok coins expire?
| Situation | What happens to your coins |
|---|---|
| You do not use them for months | The policy sets no expiry date |
| You close or delete your account | They are lost, no refund |
| TikTok terminates your account for breaking its rules | They are lost, no refund |
| Japan | TikTok states that no expiry date is set |

TikTok encourages using your coins before closing your account. Bear in mind the policy can change: check the current version if you plan to hold a large balance for a long time.
Can you get a refund on coins?
| Where you bought them | Refund |
|---|---|
| App Store (iPhone) | Handled by Apple under its own rules |
| Google Play | Request it in the app via "Report a problem"; TikTok may freeze those coins in the meantime |
| Web or direct purchase from TikTok | Generally no, except Brazil (7 days, unused coins) and Japan where the law requires it |
| Web or direct purchase in the European Economic Area | 14 days to withdraw if you have not used the coins |
| Gifts already sent | Never: they cannot be returned or refunded |

If your problem is that you paid and the coins never showed up, that is a different case: see TikTok coins not showing up.
Can creators exchange Diamonds for money?
That is a separate system. TikTok turns gifts into Diamonds and does not publish what each one is worth. Using the public estimates in TikTok diamonds to USD, $0.002 to $0.005 per coin gifted, a Galaxy (1,000 coins) would leave the creator roughly $2 to $5; TikMonitor (08/10/2026) uses an estimated $0.005 per Diamond. TikTok's Virtual Items Policy says Diamonds do not automatically entitle anyone to a payment and that sending a gift does not transfer value to the creator.
What should you do before topping up?
- Buy the coins you plan to use, not a balance to "save".
- Spend them before closing or switching accounts.
- Be wary of anyone offering to buy your coins or pay you for them: the policy does not allow it.
- Coins in your balance are governed by the same TikTok policy wherever you topped up.
If you are topping up to send gifts, pick the pack by what you plan to spend: 5,000 coins for $49 (≈ £37, ≈ CA$69) or 10,000 for $79 (≈ £59, ≈ CA$111).
Pay with crypto (USDT, BTC, ETH), enter your @username and the coins land in your balance without sharing your password. CoinTok is an independent service and is not affiliated with TikTok; buying from third parties is not backed by TikTok, whose policy expects coins to be bought from TikTok.
