How many followers do you need to go LIVE on TikTok?
Updated: 21/10/2026
TikTok asks for 1,000 followers to go LIVE, while warning that the number may vary across regions, and you must also be at least 18, according to its Help Center (checked 21/10/2026). Sending or receiving gifts in a LIVE also requires you to be 18 (19 in South Korea). And reaching the number is not enough on its own: TikTok weighs other criteria, and LIVE and gifts are not available in every country.
Quick summary
- Followers: 1,000 (may vary by region).
- Age: 18 to go LIVE; 18 (19 in South Korea) to send or receive gifts.
- TikTok may ask you to confirm your age with ID and selfies.
- Other criteria: account age, LIVE activity and no suspensions.
How many followers do you need to go LIVE?
| Requirement | What TikTok says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Followers | 1,000, "may vary across regions" | TikTok Help Center |
| Age to go LIVE | 18 | TikTok Help Center |
| Age for gifts | 18 (19 in South Korea) | TikTok Help Center |
| Access via LIVE Studio | A certain number of followers, by country | LIVE Studio (11/02/2025) |
TikTok's LIVE Safety Guide also says the number of followers needed varies by market. TikTok does not publish the exact figure for each country, so the reliable test is whether the LIVE option appears in your app.
Why can't I see LIVE if I already have 1,000 followers?
The LIVE Studio page on applying for access lists the criteria TikTok checks: an account that has existed for a certain time, your recent LIVE time, your follower count and no suspension on the account. It adds that requirements vary by country or region and can change without notice. Other common causes:
- Age not confirmed. TikTok may ask you to confirm your age, for example with an ID document and selfies.
- Region without LIVE. LIVE and gifts are not available everywhere.
- New to LIVE. According to the Safety Guide, new LIVE creators may not get every feature from day one.
- Recent violations. A suspension or restriction removes access.
Trying to get around the region or age rules is not a fix: the requirements depend on your account and TikTok can restrict it.
Can you go LIVE with fewer than 1,000 followers?
TikTok does not publish an official route with fewer followers in the app. The only documented exception is for people who already stream on other platforms: according to LIVE Studio, they can apply for access with a form describing their channel; the review can take days and the notice arrives in the app.
What do you need to receive gifts in your LIVEs?
According to TikTok's Help Center, to receive gifts you must be in a location where gifts are available, be 18 (19 in South Korea) and eligible for LIVE, keep your account in good standing and not be a government or political account. TikTok turns gifts into Diamonds and does not publish what each one is worth; using the estimates in our TikTok diamonds to USD guide, $0.002 to $0.005 per coin gifted, a Galaxy (1,000 coins) would leave roughly $2 to $5. How do you reach 1,000 followers?
The route TikTok recognises is organic: post consistently on a clear topic and give viewers a reason to follow. We cover it in detail in how to get more TikTok followers.
CoinTok also sells followers on its growth page, from 1,000 for $15 (≈ £11.23). Before considering it, note that TikTok's Community Guidelines (in force since 24/09/2026) do not allow buying or selling followers or engagement, and TikTok says it removes inauthentic followers and likes it detects and may restrict the account. That makes it an unreliable way to unlock LIVE. If you still want to consider it, read how to buy TikTok followers safely first. Orders are paid in crypto (USDT, BTC, ETH) and only need your @username: never give your password to any provider. CoinTok is an independent service and is not affiliated with TikTok.
What if you want to support other creators in LIVE?
To send gifts you only need to be 18 (19 in South Korea), be in a region with gifts and have coins. Small packs are enough to start: 5,000 coins for $49 (≈ £37, ≈ A$70) or 10,000 for $79 (≈ £59, ≈ A$113).
Pay with crypto (USDT, BTC, ETH), enter your @username and the coins land in your balance without sharing your password. CoinTok is an independent service and is not affiliated with TikTok; buying from third parties is not backed by TikTok, whose policy expects coins to be bought from TikTok.
